About
Who we are
MidTN Chess is the organization behind two Middle Tennessee chess clubs: RuCo Chess Club in Rutherford County and WilCo Chess Club in Wilson and Williamson Counties.
Our mission
Make chess accessible across Middle Tennessee: a free, welcoming club night close to home, for the player looking for a weeknight game and for the competitor preparing for the next tournament.
Our clubs meet in Murfreesboro, Nolensville, Lebanon and Mount Juliet, four nights a week. Club nights are free to attend, and every skill level is welcome.
Our values
- Everyone is welcome. Chess is for every age, background, ability and skill level. Club nights are free, no membership is needed to play, and first-timers get a game.
- We grow our community through chess. A weekly game gives neighbors a reason to meet, talk and come back. We measure our success by the friendships and the community that grow around the board.
- Every player can improve. Beginners find a patient opponent, and competitors find rated play and coaching. We help each player take their next step, wherever they start.
- Respect at the board and away from it. We play fair, win and lose with grace, and keep our clubs safe and friendly for families and young players.
- We serve Middle Tennessee. As a nonprofit, we put our members and our communities first, and we bring chess to the places people already gather.
Nonprofit status
MIDTN CHESS is a Tennessee nonprofit corporation.
It is incorporated with the Tennessee Secretary of State, and MIDTN CHESS is the name on the state's record. Everywhere else, we write it as MidTN Chess.
How MidTN Chess and its clubs fit together
Two clubs, each its own
RuCo Chess Club and WilCo Chess Club are MidTN Chess clubs and sister clubs to each other. Each club keeps its own name, colors, logo and website, and runs its own club nights, events calendar and sponsorships.
- RuCo Chess Club, established in 2026, meets in Murfreesboro in Rutherford County.
- WilCo Chess Club, founded in Lebanon in 2025, has three chapters: Lebanon and Mount Juliet in Wilson County, and Nolensville in Williamson County.
One membership
A membership is good at both clubs, so join at the club closest to you. One account signs you in at either club's site.
